Factor e Farm is the headquarters of Open Source Ecology, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing open source production machinery. It’s also the home of open source advocates Marcin Jakubowski, founder of Open Source Ecology, and Catarina Mota, co-founder of Open Materials.

We’re DIYers and open sourcerers. Our factory/farm is an experiment, an open source civilization under construction. It is often intense, messy, and chaotic — as we prototype machines, erect new buildings, and renovate older, rundown structures. While the design and build work we do here is extensively documented on the projects’ websites, we also wanted a place to record the small joys of everyday life. That’s what this farm diary is all about: a celebration of those spaces, plants, animals and events that populate our world (often behind the scenes) and bring us joy and wonder every day.
